Sometimes the biggest deterrent for cooking your own food is a lack of experience. If you don’t know how to cook, that’s ok! Your level of – or lack of – cooking experience should never stop you from pursuing your dream of eating healthy, delicious food. It can actually be quite simple with the right direction. In this section, we will share some favourite tips, techniques and tools of the trade!
There are some tools that will make any kitchen more cooking friendly, and I share some of my personal favourites in the Recommended Tools category. This site is also concerned with – or at the very least cognizant of – budget restrictions, so if you don’t have all of these yet, that’s ok. You can still learn to cook with whatever you may have! Ideally, you will be saving so much money while you become a healthy and experienced cook that you can invest some of those savings into your kitchen, making it even more efficient and effective over time.
One of the questions that I am asked the most often is how to substitute one item for another. Whether this is because of dietary restrictions or allergies or as a means of reducing the unhealthy fat content in a dish, there is an art to substitutions. I will share a few of my favourite go-to tricks in the Substitutions category.
Finally, it is to be expected that, while expanding your cooking experience, you will come across terms and techniques that are completely foreign to you. In the Techniques category, I will go over some of the most common cooking techniques, as well as some of the fancier ways to dress up your healthy, delicious, budget friendly food so that no-one, not even your own taste buds, will ever suspect it of being anything less than gourmet!
