All my adult life I have hated my body. I went from thinking I’m too fat, to too skinny.

I haven’t worn a swimsuit since I was 16.

It seemed like in my 20’s all I had to do was have a glass of water and go for a 15 minute walk to lose weight.

But then BAM! 30!

I think as soon as I hit 29ish I couldn’t just walk it off anymore. I kept gaining and gaining.

And then surprise! I was 33 and pregnant again.

life-is-a-shit-show-busy-momsI figured all hope was lost and I’d forever hear how I ‘used’ to be so thin and I ‘used’ to be in such good shape. (I’ve never actually been “in shape.” More like “a shape.” Even the thought of exercise exhausts me.)

Weight loss sounded like a myth at this point in my life. Let alone sustainable weight loss. Forget sustainable weight loss for busy moms like myself! But…

Pregnancy actually helped me get healthier.

Sugary foods didn’t appeal to me at all and smelling meat cooking was down right repulsive.

This was me approximately 1 year ago! That is a lot of baby belly…

Instead, my little parasite made my body crave vegetables. I couldn’t get enough! Peppers…I ate sooo many peppers, any color, ate them all day like apples. And spinach, I ate spinach probably 3 times a day. And I had to have red grapes on me at all times!

I also found myself drinking so much water. Plain ol’ water gets really boring so I added lemon or orange or kiwi slices to jazz it up a bit and add the vitamins.

I ate other stuff of course, but those were the staples.

Funny thing is that at 6 months pregnant I was healthier, baby was healthy and growing like a weed, and I weighed less than before I was pregnant.

After I had my slimy little bundle of joy I was blessed with gigantic ta-ta’s as well a giant jelly belly that looked like a jiggly bum filled with jello where my stomach should have been.

So from September last year I hadn’t looked in a mirror and I gave myself my own room to prevent anyone from seeing my yuck! I figured I was doomed to be ashamed of my body for the rest of my life.

BUT…thanks to some amazing family and friends I have been learning about what’s in food and how food is made…

*side note – no one will ever have my permission to eat gummy candies ever again!

So after watching some horrifying videos and researching what some ingredients actually are I made a few changes to my diet.

The biggest thing was meat.

I gave up meat.

“What about bacon? Mmm bacon!”

Umm no. No bacon either.

“How about fish? Or chicken? Eggs?”

Fish are friends not food!

No meat at all.

Giving up meat was super easy for me, I didn’t eat a lot of it anyways, and  I saw some really horrifying videos and read some disturbing articles. It is really easy to not eat something that makes me nauseous.

I know it’s not the best picture ever but I’m BUSY and selfie’s aren’t a thing in my world.

I made some other alterations to my diet too. I cut way back on sugar. Didn’t cut it out all together, I probably will never drink coffee without sugar, and it would seem that I need coffee to keep my children from calling social services.

I also traded chips and crackers for chickpeas…mmmm chickpeas.

I’m now chasing a cup of coffee with a cup of lemon water. And I can feel the difference that is making!

Instead of a ton of pasta I have substantially increased my squash intake. Man do I love squashes! Kabocha and spaghetti squashes are my favorite!

Also, instead of frying stuff in butter or margarine I am using coconut oil. So tasty!

I like to use coconut milk instead of salty broths for soups and stews.

So the other day I ran out of clean shirts.

I’m a busy mom, my laundry gets done last.

The only shirt I had clean was a ladies t-shirt I had when I was “thin and in shape.”

What the heck, let’s give it a go.

Well holy crap it fits!!!

I’ve been wearing men’s large t-shirts for years! You can ask my mom, she hates it.

So for the first time in probably close to 4 years, I’m wearing a medium ladies t-shirt and guess what else?!? Jeans! I’m wearing jeans and my thighs aren’t screaming to escape!

All this and I have never, ever, ever gone to a gym or a fitness class! It was so easy! It took me a year, but I didn’t try, like at all!

A few little tweaks to my diet and I’m healthier and lost some weight and I can tolerate my kids when they’re being noisy!

Imagine what a good night sleep would do!

Hahaha what is sleep?

Save
