I make a smoothie most days of the week. I have what I consider to be my basic smoothie where I just throw in a banana and whatever fruit appeals to me out of my freezer. I always have a considerable selection waiting. As much as I love my smoothies, they never feel particularly “new”, if you know what I mean. They are always a basic smoothie.
Today, for some reason that I cannot explain, I browsed the back of the package of my frozen organic strawberries as I was preparing my oatmeal (which I also make most days of the week, as you can see here: Every Day Oatmeal). I have used these strawberries for quite some time now, without ever noticing what the recipe on the back was, but today, I took note for some reason.
There was a smoothie recipe. I’m writing this while away from my strawberries, so I don’t remember the exact recipe now, but it included Basil. Basil! Whoever thought of putting Basil in their smoothie!? Not I! But I’ve had Basil with Strawberries in a salad before, so I know I like the flavour combination, I’ve just never thought of adding that particular leafy green to my smoothie before!
So today I tried it. And I was pleased. Very, very pleased.
I encourage you to also give it a try! Here’s the concoction I created:
Strawberry Basil Smoothie
- 1 medium banana
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
- 2 large fresh Basil leaves
- 1/2 cup raw cashews
- 2 tbsp ground flax
- 1 cup green tea
- 1/4 cup soy milk
- Add to a blender – I used the largest cup from my Nutri Bullet set – and blend!
